Description
We are representing a client in the search for a Senior Estimator to take on a key role in cost planning and proposal development across large-scale mining projects. This position will focus on preparing accurate budgets, detailed take-offs, and conceptual cost models in sectors such as mining, construction, and engineering.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of estimates, proposals, and bid packages to meet client requirements.
- Assess project specifications and drawings, ensuring methodology and pricing align with scope.
- Oversee estimate scheduling, resource allocation, and deliverables to ensure timely submission.
- Carry out detailed calculations to establish productivity rates, manpower needs, and equipment usage.
- Analyze and forecast capital, operating, and rental expenditures.
- Develop work methodologies and integrate them into proposal documentation.
- Provide production schedules and cash flow projections, including ROI, payback, and NPV analysis.
- Generate reports, charts, and cost breakdowns related to labor, plant, and equipment utilization.
- Draft and maintain tender and contract documents.
- Conduct site evaluations and feasibility assessments.
- Establish baseline budgets for cost control and support project tracking during execution.
- Coordinate with vendors to maintain up-to-date pricing databases.
- Prepare technical sketches or drawings when required.
- Support projects from initiation through completion, including cost monitoring and reporting.
- Contribute to management bid reviews and internal performance analysis.
- Carry out other estimating and project support activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in estimating for underground mining projects.
- Solid background in construction cost estimating.
- Proficiency with estimating and scheduling software such as InEight (Hard Dollar) and Primavera P6.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines independently or collaboratively.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, and Adobe.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
Work Conditions
- Primarily office-based, with required travel to project and site locations.
- Field visits may involve exposure to outdoor environments, rough terrain, inclement weather, and underground conditions.
- Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
- Occasional requirement to operate or ride in vehicles.
