Fire Protection Senior Designer – Edmonton, AB

Up to $100K (experience dependent) + Benefits + RRSP Matching

Permanent, Full-Time

Our client – a well-established and growing fire protection systems contractor based in Edmonton – is currently seeking a Fire Protection Senior Designer to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an industry leader known for delivering turnkey fire safety solutions, from design through to installation, commissioning, and maintenance. With a focus on technical excellence and safety, they provide services across a broad range of fire protection systems in compliance with ULC and NFPA standards.

As part of their ongoing growth strategy, they’re looking to bring on a skilled designer with strong technical abilities, coordination experience, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design fire sprinkler systems in compliance with NFPA codes and building regulations
  • Develop detailed layout drawings using AutoCAD and HydraCAD/AutoSPRINK
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to determine sprinkler head spacing, piping sizing, and fire pump requirements
  • Conduct system assessments using hydraulic modeling tools such as AFT Fathom
  • Coordinate fire protection design with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural disciplines
  • Prepare material take-offs, fabrication drawings, and submittal documentation
  • Review and verify designs from other team members for accuracy, compliance, and constructability
  • Attend coordination meetings and liaise with project managers and other stakeholders

Candidate Profile

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology or a related field; strong candidates with a high school diploma and significant relevant experience will also be considered
  • Graduates from Seneca’s Fire Protection program with strong AutoCAD/Revit capabilities are preferred
  • 2–5+ years of relevant design experience in fire protection or related disciplines
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks
  • Hands-on experience with fire sprinkler design software (HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK) and hydraulic tools like AFT Fathom
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards, local building codes, and FM Global requirements
  • BIM/3D drafting experience considered an asset
  • NICET Level II certification is an advantage
  • Exposure to project management platforms such as Procore is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset
