Overview

Our client, a leader in the mining sector, is seeking a highly skilled Mineral Processing and Testing Specialist with deep expertise in iron ore characterization and beneficiation. This senior technical role requires hands-on experience in evaluating metallurgical test programs, interpreting complex results, and developing flowsheets to optimize ore processing performance across international projects. This position offers the potential for remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

The specialist will be responsible for translating metallurgical data into actionable process improvements:

  • Test work Evaluation: Review, interpret, and provide expert technical recommendations on laboratory and pilot-scale ore characterization and beneficiation test work programs.
  • Comminution Analysis: Evaluate results from comminution testing, including crushing, grinding, Bond Work Index, abrasion, and grindability analyses.
  • Separation Expertise: Assess separation test work, including magnetic separation (LIMS, WHIMS), flotation, gravity concentration, and pellet feed preparation.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze detailed metallurgical data to determine liberation characteristics, mineral recoveries, concentrate grades, and comprehensive mass balances.
  • Process Optimization: Support the development and optimization of beneficiation flowsheets for various iron ore projects to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate closely with laboratory managers, engineering teams, and project stakeholders to align testing strategies with final process design goals.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare formal technical reports summarizing test results, interpretations, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Pilot Plant Assessment: Assess the performance of batch and continuous pilot-scale beneficiation trials.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Geology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in mineral processing, specifically focused on iron ore testing and beneficiation.
  • Technical Acumen: Proven ability to accurately interpret complex metallurgical data and translate raw results into practical, actionable process design recommendations.
  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with pilot plant operations, fundamental process design principles, and metallurgical balance calculations.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and technical report-writing skills.
  • Work Style: Ability to thrive working independently or remotely within cross-functional, multi-geographic teams.
