Role Summary

The Senior Procurement Specialist is responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier management, and cost optimization across assigned categories. This role leads complex purchasing initiatives, negotiates with key suppliers, and supports the execution of procurement strategies to ensure cost efficiency, quality, and reliable supply. The position will have three direct reports.

Strategic Sourcing and Cost Management

  • Lead sourcing initiatives for assigned categories (RFQ / RFP / supplier selection)
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and long-term agreements
  • Identify and deliver cost reduction and value improvement opportunities
  • Conduct market and commodity analysis to support purchasing decisions

Supplier Management

  • Manage relationships with key and strategic suppliers
  • Monitor supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery, service)
  • Lead supplier reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Mitigate supply risks and develop alternate sourcing strategies

Procurement Execution and Operations

  • Oversee purchasing activities for assigned categories
  • Ensure material availability aligns with production and operational needs
  • Support planning, inventory, and operations teams on supply matters
  • Resolve supply, pricing, or contract issues proactively

Process and Systems

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures
  • Drive improvements in procurement processes and efficiency
  • Maintain accurate data in ERP system (pricing, contracts, suppliers)
  • Support spend analysis and reporting

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead centralization of procurement from Edmonton
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Engineering, and Planning
  • Participate in strategic procurement and cost management initiatives

What you have:

  • Relevant education preferred
  • 3–5 years procurement / sourcing experience
  • Strong experience in manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • Leadership experience or potential
  • Demonstrated success in cost reduction and supplier negotiations
  • Strong negotiation and commercial acumen
  • Strategic sourcing and supplier development
  • Cost analysis and financial understanding
  • Contract and commercial terms knowledge
  • Risk management and problem solving
  • ERP systems proficiency (Business Central)
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration
