Construction Project Manager (P.Eng. Preferred)

About the Role

Haven Building Group Inc. is expanding into commercial and institutional construction, with a growing portfolio of building envelope restoration, renovations, and commercial fit-ups. We are seeking a senior Construction Project Manager to lead projects from pre-construction through closeout while helping strengthen our estimating and project delivery systems.

This role is ideal for a P.Eng. or senior technical professional who wants meaningful responsibility, influence over processes, and the opportunity to help shape a growing commercial contractor.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead commercial and institutional construction projects from pre-construction through completion.
  • Develop and manage detailed project execution plans, including scope, schedule, budget, procurement, and risk.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.

Pre-Construction & Estimating

  • Support and help lead the estimating function alongside the construction management team.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify risks, constructability issues, and opportunities.
  • Participate in tender preparation and submissions for public and private sector work.
  • Experience with MERX, OCA, SAP Ariba and Link2Build is considered a strong asset.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cash flow, change management, and cost reporting.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor costs, assess variances, and implement corrective actions as required.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, and internal teams.
  • Proactively manage sequencing and site logistics to minimize delays and disruptions.

Risk, Quality & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate project risks related to schedule, cost, safety, and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, building codes, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee quality control processes and site inspections.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead project meetings and provide clear, professional reporting on progress, risks, and changes.
  • Maintain strong working relationships built on transparency and accountability.

Health & Safety

  • Enforce company and regulatory health & safety standards on all sites.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation.

Project Closeout

  • Manage project closeout activities, including deficiencies, documentation, warranties, and handover.
  • Ensure a smooth transition to the client and long-term satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Designation: P.Eng. strongly preferred; PMP or equivalent considered an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience managing commercial or institutional construction projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction methods, contracts, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with project management, scheduling, and financial tracking software.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, manage consultants and trades, and make sound technical decisions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem Solving: Analytical, proactive, and solutions-focused mindset.
