Position Overview

Our client is delivering a large civil infrastructure project involving extensive earthworks, structures, temporary works, and phased civil execution. Early construction activity is underway with temporary works and site facilities in place. The main construction phase is scheduled to ramp up early next year.

They are seeking a Senior Civil Field Engineer to provide lead field oversight, technical coordination, and engineering support throughout the project. This project will be based on Vancouver Island. This will be FIFO for anyone not based there who cannot relocate.

Further Responsibilities Include the Following

  • Provide resident engineering support during heavy civil and structural construction activities
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, issuing clarifications and resolving field queries
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with design intent, quality standards, and technical requirements
  • Support planning, review, and coordination of temporary works, excavation, foundations, and structural elements
  • Participate in daily and weekly construction coordination meetings
  • Review and verify non-conformances, site instructions, field changes, and contractor submittals
  • Assist with sequencing discussions, schedule reviews, and risk identification
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams as the project phases progress
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers on site

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Significant experience overseeing heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure construction projects
  • Strong understanding of rock excavation, rock support, excavation, foundations, concrete works, and structural elements
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply engineering documentation in the field (ideally civil and geotechnical)
  • Experienced in contractor coordination and field decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills and steady leadership presence in a site environment
  • Flexible to work extended schedules or rotation-based work periods during peak construction times
