Senior Software Engineer, AI – Westlaw AI

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to become part of our dynamic and innovative team focused on developing content-centric AI-driven solutions for legal professionals, including our flagship product, Westlaw. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing user interfaces and backend services using a micro-frontend architecture, utilizing technologies such as Java, React/Angular, Python, REST APIs, and AWS cloud infrastructure.

About the Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer – AI, your responsibilities include:

  1. Innovating, implementing, and operationalizing solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Creating AI-driven software for legal professionals, working with top AI and software development experts.
  3. Designing and implementing backend services for generative AI agents and orchestration systems.
  4. Collaborating with AI/ML engineers, frontend developers, product managers, and designers to build AI interfaces like Conversations, Workspaces, Grid, and Knowledge Base.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Backend Development & AI Integration: Develop backend services with Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL; implement AI orchestration systems; design APIs for real-time AI interactions.
  2. Performance & Scalability: Ensure systems are secure, scalable, and optimized for AI applications; monitor and improve system performance.
  3. Collaboration & Leadership: Work with AI researchers and product teams; foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.

About You:

You should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in backend development, building scalable web services and APIs.
  • 3+ years of Python experience with FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
  • Expertise in AWS cloud services and infrastructure management tools like Terraform.
  • Strong background in Data Engineering and retrieval systems.
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices, LLMs, AI solutions, and agentic systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a pragmatic and curious mindset.
