Senior Tax Analyst
Salary Range: $104,000 to $127,000
Location: Vancouver, BC
This role involves preparing Canadian direct and indirect tax returns at both the state and federal levels. It requires supporting the local finance team with all tax-related matters and assisting the group tax team with tax accounting and aspects of international tax.
Additionally, the role will provide both technical and general tax support to the broader tax team in meeting their group tax compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- As a key member of the finance team, this role involves supporting the broader business by taking responsibility for various aspects of corporate and indirect taxes, as directed by the team. You will assist with tax accounting and disclosures for the group tax and finance departments.
- Your role will help the group tax team manage all taxes on behalf of the organization, ensuring full compliance while maximizing all available tax reliefs. This position will require effective management of both internal and external stakeholders, with regular communication with colleagues across all business units.
- Key stakeholders include the Canadian finance team, the group tax team, payroll, and the Canadian tax authorities.
About you
You will possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
- CPA designation is preferred; public accounting experience is required
- Proficient in researching and making sound judgments on tax-related technical areas
- Strong project management and time management skills
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to understand commercial transactions and arrangements
- Self-starter with the ability to drive work forward independently
- Motivated individual with strong communication skills
- Capacity to develop positive working relationships at all levels within and outside the organization
- High level of personal integrity and professionalism
- Able to lead by example while also being an excellent team player
- Adaptability to quickly changing business needs
Key Accountabilities
- Prepare annual tax computations and returns for all Canadian entities in collaboration with external tax advisors, including any group-level returns. Ensure submissions to tax authorities are made on time.
- Conduct fixed asset tax analysis to maximize deductions.
- Provide support on technical reliefs.
- Perform technical analysis and correspondence to aid communications with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Prepare tax provisions and tax notes for inclusion in annual group accounts and individual entity accounts as needed.
- Assist with indirect tax submissions.
- Help manage tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities promptly and efficiently.
- Undertake ad hoc tax projects to support the needs of both the Group and individual business units, including payroll and other indirect taxes.
