Job Title: Workday US Payroll Senior Consultant
Location: Remote, US or Canada
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (sponsorship not available)
Position Summary
The Workday US Payroll Senior Consultant will lead and manage the Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking workstreams for client implementations and ongoing support. This role serves as both a functional and technical subject matter expert (SME), bridging the gap between business requirements and Workday system capabilities. The consultant will be responsible for end-to-end delivery across configuration, testing, deployment, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Workday US Payroll with proven experience solving complex intersystem challenges, leading client workstreams, mentoring junior consultants, and executing high-quality configurations. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong project leadership qualities, and the ability to translate complex business rules into effective Workday solutions. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting issues, advancing client maturity, participating in Workday update cycles, and ensuring consistent delivery across engagements.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle implementations for Payroll including planning, requirements gathering, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support
- Partner with clients to understand Payroll, Absence, and Time business processes and translate requirements into scalable Workday configurations
- Drive workstream planning, task management, and team coordination to ensure timely and accurate delivery
- Perform hands-on configuration including business processes, security, calculations, inputs/outputs, pay components, time entry codes, accruals, eligibility rules, and validation formulas
- Utilize technical aptitude to map, transform, and load data using EIBs and other Workday tools
- Move configuration between tenants, execute unit testing, coordinate UAT, and resolve defects
- Maintain clear documentation related to design decisions, configuration, testing, and deployment activities
- Communicate regularly with clients, Engagement Managers, and project teams regarding status, risks, and progress
- Act as an SME for Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking throughout engagements
- Provide mentorship, knowledge sharing, and guidance to fellow consultants and analysts
- Participate in update training, internal enablement, and skill development initiatives
- Serve in leadership roles such as Workday Product Lead, Partner Lead, or Delivery Assurance Reviewer as needed
- Support ticket resolution, troubleshooting, and enhancement requests for AMS/Support clients
- Reinforce company methodology, delivery standards, and quality expectations across assigned workstreams
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of Workday Payroll experience
- Workday Services Certification Required in US Payroll; CAD and UK are great too! (Willingness to transfer certification where required)
- 3+ years of industry experience in Payroll
- Experience gathering requirements, designing solutions, prototyping, testing, and deploying Workday configurations under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into clear technical specifications
- Strong customer-facing skills and the ability to lead client discussions independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Work Hours
