Red Seal Journeyman Electrician

Your new role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Journeyman Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical infrastructure across both underground and surface operations. This role supports safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems across the mill, crushing, hoisting, underground, and process areas.

Working closely with operations and maintenance teams, you will play a key role in minimizing downtime, improving reliability, and contributing to a strong safety culture on site.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, components, and infrastructure across underground and surface operations
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and availability
  • Perform high-voltage switching, testing, isolation, and cable terminations (including 13.8 kV splices and stress cone applications) in accordance with safe work procedures
  • Troubleshoot control systems, including VFDs, soft starters, PLCs, and communication networks
  • Conduct inspections and operational checks to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Coordinate materials, tools, and services required for planned and corrective maintenance
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions, taking corrective action where appropriate
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Respond promptly to equipment failures to support production targets across mill and underground operations

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Valid Ontario Electrical License (309A Construction & Maintenance)
  • Underground and Surface Common Core (or willingness to obtain)
  • Proven experience working with 13.8 kV, 4160V, and 600V systems, including installation and maintenance
  • Familiarity with hoisting plants, MCCs, soft starters (Benshaw), VFDs (e.g. Yaskawa), PLCs (e.g. GE RX3I), and overhead cranes considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical distribution systems and ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics
  • Experience using SAP or similar maintenance systems is an asset
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including underground, confined spaces, and at heights, with lifting requirements exceeding 50 lbs
