Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Site Superintendent in the day-to-day management, coordination, and execution of residential construction projects. The successful candidate will have a strong carpentry background, Journeyman Carpenter certification, and hands-on experience in residential or multi-family construction. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Site Superintendent in managing all on-site construction activities.
- Coordinate and supervise trades, subcontractors, suppliers, and laborers.
- Monitor construction schedules and help ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Conduct site inspections to verify quality workmanship and compliance with drawings, specifications, and building codes.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety standards and OH&S regulations.
- Perform site layout verification and assist with problem-solving during construction.
- Review and understand construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with trades.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, including daily reports, deficiency logs, safety records, and progress updates.
- Participate in site meetings with consultants, trades, and project management teams.
- Assist with project turnover, occupancy inspections, and warranty-related activities.
- Support carpentry work and provide technical expertise when required.
Qualifications Required
- Journeyman Carpenter Certification (Alberta recognized).
- 5+ years of residential, commercial, or multi-family construction experience.
- Previous experience as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, or similar supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of Alberta Building Code and construction practices.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, specifications, and schedules.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations.
