Associate Category Manager – 12 Month Temporary Assignment

If you have a keen eye for trends in the pet industry and want to contribute to our company’s success as an associate category manager, this position could be the opportunity for you! Under the leadership of the Merchandising and Category Management Director, you will be responsible for managing the commercialization of products in your category, working closely with various departments to offer our customers unique, quality products, thereby contributing to our growth and profitability objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Merchandising and Category management director, the duties and responsibilities of the associate category manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing sales results and margins for assigned categories.
  • Leading performance reviews and implement actions to achieve objectives.
  • Meeting with vendors regularly to review overall business, performing line review and discussing opportunities to grow the business.
  • Working with marketing department to grow customer lists through retargeting campaigns, geo targeted campaigns, and in-store & online events.
  • Developing and executing category development plans.
  • Coordinating supplier sourcing, agreement negotiation, assortment, and margin management activities, in close collaboration with the National Merchandising and Category Management team.
  • Planning and executing a promotional plan in collaboration with suppliers and the National Category Management team.
  • Monitoring trends and perform category analyses.
  • Planning sourcing in collaboration with the procurement and supply chain team.
  • Developing merchandising and planography strategies, in collaboration with the Space Planner and the National Category Management team.
  • Ensuring data integrity using SAP business processes.
  • Demonstrating leadership and enthusiasm in a context of change, encouraging innovation and the adoption of new ideas.
  • Assuming all other related responsibilities as required by the business.

Skills and Effort Requirements:

  • Outstanding leadership and positivity, a team player, stimulate innovation and generate commitment.
  • Knowledge of the animal industry (considerable asset).
  • Good analytical, synthesis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, planning, and organization of work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate rigor and attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office environment (Word, Excel intermediate, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Proficiency of the SAP suite (an asset).

Minimum Requirements:

  • More than three (3) years’ experience in product development and purchasing, partnership negotiation, merchandising and category management in retail.
  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant field (administration, procurement, operations management, fashion marketing, etc.)
  • Familiar with Ecommerce & OMNI Channel Business Development.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is between $75 000-$80 000. *The total compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.

This position is based in the Ren’s Pets home office located in Puslinch, Ontario, with a requirement to work in the office 2-3 days per week and flexibility to work from home.
