Responsibilities – Family Law Practice:<br/><br/>Oversee all aspects of family law files from intake to resolution or adjudication.<br/><br/>Attend questioning for discovery and on affidavit, chambers, trials, appeals and other court proceedings as required.<br/><br/>Facilitate alternative dispute resolution processes including settlement meetings, mediations, case conferences and other negotiation forms.<br/><br/>Draft court and legal documents related to conferences, motions, trials, appeals, mediations, arbitrations and domestic agreements.<br/><br/>Maintain accurate records of client files and billable hours.<br/><br/>Conduct client consultations, review assets and liabilities, assess expenses and income for settlement or litigation.<br/><br/>Draft settlement proposals, negotiate settlements, and, when required, handle real‑estate conveyancing.<br/><br/>Manage parenting disputes, domestic violence and other abuse cases, and litigate Emergency Protection Orders and Restraining Orders.<br/><br/>Communicate professionally in all oral and written correspondence with clients, counsel and the court.<br/><br/>Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions and affidavits.<br/><br/>Attend court hearings, mediations, and negotiations; collaborate with colleagues and support other firm files.<br/><br/>Build practice through networking and maintaining relationships with clients and professionals.<br/><br/>Responsibilities – Employee Leadership:<br/><br/>Train and support a Legal Assistant to provide professional service.<br/><br/>Collaborate with a Partner on employee relations, performance, and HR best practices.<br/><br/>Manage employee conduct through coaching, discipline and dismissal processes when appropriate.<br/><br/>Maintain a positive employee‑relations environment and foster inclusivity, respect, and diversity.<br/><br/>Qualifications and Education Requirements<br/><br/>Degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution (JD or LLB) and a minimum of five years of experience as a family lawyer.<br/><br/>License to practice law in Alberta and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.<br/><br/>Collaboration and mediation experience or certification is an asset.<br/><br/>Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta Rules of Court, Family Law Rules, and related practice notes, court rules and forms.<br/><br/>Extensive knowledge of family case law and relevant legislation (e.g., Divorce Act, Family Law Act, Family Property Act, Protection Against Family Violence Act, etc.).<br/><br/>Strong legal research, drafting, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.<br/><br/>Effective analytical and problem‑solving abilities.<br/><br/>Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and in team environments, and maintain quality and accuracy.<br/><br/>Proficiency with Microsoft Office, LEAP, Childview/DivorceMate and Adobe Acrobat.<br/><br/>Ability to foster and maintain trusting and dependable working relationships.<br/><br/>Ability to take initiative and work independently on assigned tasks.<br/><br/>Commitment to inclusivity, respect, and diversity.<br/><br/>#J-18808-Ljbffr
