Description

Our client is a growing law firm, and they have an opening for a Criminal Defense Lawyer. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing criminal law and will handle a diverse caseload. The role involves managing files at all stages, from intake and bail to trial and sentencing.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in criminal, provincial offences, and HTA matters, including bail hearings, trials, guilty pleas, and sentencing
  • Appear regularly before the Ontario Court of Justice and, where applicable, the Superior Court of Justice
  • Conduct legal research and prepare Charter applications, motions, submissions, and trial materials
  • Draft clear and persuasive legal documents, including pleadings and written arguments
  • Negotiate with Crown and Provincial Prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with clients and provide strategic and timely legal advice
  • Work collaboratively with other counsel and legal support staff

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience practicing criminal law
  • Demonstrated courtroom and trial experience is a must
  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload independently
