Adecco is currently hiring for a temporary, full-time Customs Specialist for our client located in Ottawa, ON.
As the Customs Specialist, you’ll manage shipments, verify compliance, negotiate rates, and maintain SOPs, collaborating with carriers and brokers for smooth operations.
The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge of HTS classification, familiarity with import and export regulations of various countries, understanding of government reporting procedures for imports and exports, and knowledge of assisting processes with CBSA.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments have proper customs and FDA documentation to prevent shipping delays.
- Prepare all Finished Goods shipments and miscellaneous shipments for export to various destinations according to standard operating procedures.
- Prepare shipping documentation and ship miscellaneous material for all of our client’s site.
- Maintain HS classification listing for both imports and exports.
- Verify and approve freight invoices and audit and review customs declarations.
- Verify and approve brokerage invoices and entry packages
- Update and maintain department Standard Operating Procedures.
- Work with carriers on transportation rates and routing options
- Work with customs brokers to ensure compliance on entries
- Develop internal process to support classification of NAFTA/COO agreements.
- Miscellaneous other duties as may be required
Qualifications & Skills:
- Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada
- Handling a large amount of work efficiently and effectively and adapting to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative in dealing with a variety of duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to clearly, concisely and accurately convey communications.
- Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationships; displays socially and professionally appropriate behavior.

- Strong analytical skills;
- Ability to identify and lead cost savings initiatives.
- Experience and knowledge of HTS classification and understanding various countries import and export regulations.
- Understanding of government reporting of import and exports
- Understanding of assist processes with CBSA
