The Company

 

CM2 supports AI, Data Enablement, CRM, Digital, and Marketing activities at General Motors Canada Company. CM2 is based at GM’s Canadian offices in Oshawa and Markham, and aligned with the vehicle sales and service activities of GM.  

 

The Role

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for building, automating, and supporting the infrastructure, delivery pipelines, and operational controls that enable reliable software and machine learning releases at GM. This role combines core DevOps ownership of infrastructure, CI/CD, cloud deployment, and secrets management with Site Reliability Engineering practices focused on reliability, scalability, performance, observability, and incident response, along with MLOps responsibilities such as experiment tracking, model versioning, training and inference pipelines, governance, and production monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform.
  • Develop, automate, and support CI/CD and ML pipeline workflows, including build, test, deployment, retraining, and inference processes across software and machine learning systems.
  • Manage cloud deployments and environment provisioning across development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Administer secrets management, key rotation, and encryption processes in alignment with security best practices.
  • Design and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities that provide clear visibility into service health and enable proactive issue detection.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, and performance through automation, resilient design, and operational best practices.
  • Lead or support incident response, service recovery, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews to reduce recurrence and improve response quality.
  • Support capacity planning and infrastructure optimization to balance cost, growth, and performance requirements.
  • Define and support service reliability targets such as SLOs, SLAs, and error-budget-aware operational practices.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, onboarding guides, README files, and production readiness materials.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms and Kubernetes-based environments.
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and related DevOps tooling.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms, incident management processes, postmortems, and production readiness reviews.
  • Strong troubleshooting, scripting, automation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Skills:

Must Have

  • DevOps and MLOps experience using Databricks
  • Strong hands-on experience with Databricks Workflows, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, MLflow, and Asset Bundles
  • GitHub Actions for CI/CD, including reusable workflows, OIDC authentication, and environment promotion
  • Azure cloud platform experience, including ADLS Gen2, Key Vault, Entra ID, AKS, and networking
  • Terraform for infrastructure as code, including Databricks and Azure providers, remote state, and reusable modules
  • Python for automation, developer tooling, and PySpark pipelines
  • Strong Git fundamentals, branching strategies, and code review discipline

Nice to Have

  • Datadog for monitoring and observability
  • Azure Container Apps and Kubernetes
  • Experience with secret management tools such as HashiCorp Vault
