Director, Cloud Platforms & Operations

Remote Canada | Full-Time | Leadership Opportunity

A growing technology services organization is seeking a Director of Cloud Platforms & Operations to lead the evolution of its cloud practice across architecture, partnerships, service delivery and talent development.

This is a highly visible leadership role operating at the intersection of cloud technology, engineering strategy, vendor management and organizational capability building. You will be responsible for defining how cloud services are delivered, strengthening relationships with major cloud providers, and ensuring the business has the talent and technical standards required to scale.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical credibility with strong stakeholder management skills and experience building cloud organizations that can operate efficiently at scale.

What You’ll Be Doing

Cloud Services & Platform Strategy

  • Define and evolve the organization’s cloud services portfolio, including service offerings, reference architectures, support models and governance frameworks.
  • Establish standards and best practices across architecture, security, operational readiness, scalability and cost optimization.
  • Drive the creation and adoption of reusable cloud capabilities, platform services, landing zones, automation frameworks, and shared tooling.
  • Own the lifecycle of cloud services from design and review through release, versioning, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Finance teams to ensure services align with governance, regulatory, and FinOps objectives.

Cloud Provider Partnerships

  • Act as the technical lead for strategic relationships across AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Manage technical requirements associated with partner programs, competencies, certifications and specializations.
  • Ensure the business maintains and advances partner status through accreditation, certification, and technical validation programs.
  • Collaborate with cloud provider teams to maximise funding opportunities, co-sell initiatives, enablement programs, and technical resources.
  • Stay ahead of partner program changes and translate evolving requirements into actionable plans for engineering and leadership teams.

Engineering Talent & Capability Development

  • Own hiring strategy and technical evaluation processes for Cloud Engineers, Platform Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers, and Infrastructure professionals.
  • Develop competency frameworks, technical career paths, and role-level expectations.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers to build sustainable talent pipelines and recruitment strategies.
  • Establish and continuously improve technical assessment processes, interview frameworks, and hiring standards.
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and capability development initiatives to accelerate engineer growth and performance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive experience in Cloud Architecture, Platform Engineering, Cloud Consulting, or a related senior technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise across at least two major hyperscalers, with exposure to AWS, Azure, and GCP strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience developing cloud standards, governance models, reference architectures, or platform services.
  • Strong understanding of cloud partner ecosystems, certification programs, competencies, and technical accreditation requirements.
  • Experience building engineering teams and designing technical recruitment or assessment processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

  • Professional cloud certifications across multiple providers.
  • Previous experience leading a Cloud Centre of Excellence, Platform Engineering function, or Architecture practice.
  • Experience with FinOps, Cloud Security, Governance and Compliance programs.
  • Track record of building and scaling high-performing technical teams.
