About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director, Data Engineering to lead the strategy, design, and delivery of our clients enterprise data platform. This leader will be responsible for overseeing a high-performing data engineering team while delivering modern, cloud-based data solutions that enable analytics, AI, machine learning, and business decision-making across our clients organization.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership and has a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale data platforms, modernizing data architecture, and partnering with business and technology stakeholders in a fast-paced Agile environment. Experience within retail or e-commerce environments is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Data Engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and execute the organization’s data engineering strategy, roadmap, and best practices aligned with business objectives.
  • Design, build, and oversee scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-based data platforms and data pipelines supporting analytics, reporting, AI, and machine learning initiatives.
  • Drive the development and optimization of enterprise ETL/ELT pipelines using Snowflake, Azure, and Google Cloud technologies.
  • Champion modern data engineering practices, including automation, observability, testing, monitoring, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code where applicable.
  • Lead Master Data Management (MDM) and Product Information Management (PIM) initiatives, establishing governance, stewardship models, data quality processes, and self-service data correction capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Data Science, Analytics, Product, and Business teams to deliver trusted, high-quality data products and enable advanced analytics.
  • Partner with SAP teams to design and maintain integrations
  • Establish and enforce data governance, security, privacy, and compliance standards, ensuring adherence to PIPEDA and organizational policies.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and developing technical teams.
  • Proven experience building and operating enterprise-scale cloud data platforms.
  • Hands-on expertise with Snowflake.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery).
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
  • Strong SQL and Python programming skills.
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern data modelling techniques, including:
  • Dimensional Modelling
  • Star Schema
  • Data Vault
  • Experience implementing data quality frameworks, monitoring, and observability solutions.
  • Experience integrating SAP data is ideal
  • Strong understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering best practices.
  • Experience working alongside Data Scientists to support feature engineering, model deployment, and machine learning workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail or e-commerce industry experience.
  • Experience modernizing legacy data platforms into cloud-native architectures.
