You will act as a subject‑matter expert, mentor junior estimators, and help shape how the estimating function evolves within the company.</p><p><br></p><p>Key Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Identify project leads and bid opportunities through online portals.</li><li>Support the preparation of prequalification submissions and proposal packages.</li><li>Conduct detailed reviews and analysis of contract documents before tender closings.</li><li>Assess project risks and opportunities, recommending mitigation measures.</li><li>Complete accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.</li><li>Solicit competitive pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.</li><li>Prepare preliminary critical path schedules prior to tender submission.</li><li>Lead the estimating team through tender closings.</li><li>Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and consultants.</li><li>Mentor and support junior estimators.</li><li>Take initiative on high-volume tasks: calling to source work, data entry, updating takeoff sheets, and refining spreadsheets or internal tools as needed.</li><li>Build new internal tools and processes to improve efficiency—this is a hands-on, builder‑style role.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><b>What youll need to succeed</b></p><ul><li>College or University degree in Construction, Engineering, or related fields.</li><li>7–12 years of estimating experience with a General Contractor in competitive ICI environments.</li><li>Strong knowledge of Ottawa’s subcontractor/supplier market and established network connections.</li><li>Excellent understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and management processes.</li><li>Strong communication skills (verbal and written).</li><li>Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, drawings, sketches, and specifications.</li><li>Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).</li><li>Experience with On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Timberline, MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar software.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>This posting is for an existing vacancy with the organization.</p><p>AI may be used to screen, assess or select applicants for the position.</p>
