Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.
What you will do:
As an Estimator, you will play a key role within the ONxpress Construction Joint Venture (CJV) Estimating team, supporting the delivery of major transportation and heavy civil infrastructure works, including rail corridors, stations, structures, and associated civil systems.
Operating in a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) environment, this role goes beyond traditional estimating. You will be actively involved in design development, cost planning, and continuous estimate refinement as project scope evolves. Working closely with engineering, construction, and commercial teams, you will help ensure cost certainty, constructability, and value optimization throughout all project phases.
- Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates for a variety of scopes (civil works, rail systems, track works, structures, stations etc.)
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and develop Bills of Quantities (BOQs) using drawings, models, and specifications
- Develop and maintain cost models at various design stages (concept to IFC design)
- Work closely with design engineers, planners, and construction teams to provide real-time cost input during design development
- Participate in design coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and technical workshops
- Evaluate alternative design solutions, materials, and staging approaches to optimize cost and performance
- Build and maintain unit rate databases, benchmarks, and cost libraries
- Utilize Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) tools and 3D models for scope identification and quantity generation
- Analyze historical cost data, productivity rates, and market conditions to support estimate accuracy
- Collaborate with project managers, commercial teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of cost and scope
- Communicate key assumptions, risks, and pricing key drivers effectively
What you will bring:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in construction estimating with exposure to transportation or rail infrastructure projects, heavy civil works (roads, structures, utilities, earthworks)
- Experience in Design-Build or Progressive Design-Build environments is an asset
- Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documents
- Solid understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and cost drivers
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to distill strategy into a clear, compelling and concise narrative
- Attention to detail, mathematical and analytical skills
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Knowledge and experience of Bluebeam, BIM software, Power BI, and Power query would be an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of typical construction contract types.
- Site construction experience would be an asset.
Expected compensation for this role is between $70,000-$110,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to multiple factors including skills, experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration. In addition to base salary ONxpress also offers a comprehensive medical and dental program, RRSP with company matching and the potential to participate in our discretionary, performance based bonus program.
