Description
Title: HR Business Advisor (HR Outsourcing)
Type: 12-Month Contract
Location: Halifax, NS or Burnaby, Montreal, QC
Work Model: Hybrid (3 days/week)
PR: $25-27/hr
Overview:
- Collabera is hiring an HR Business Advisor (HRBA) to backfill a maternity leave on the HR Outsourcing team. This role supports a portfolio of clients across Canada, acting as a trusted advisor on day-to-day HR matters including compliance, employee relations, accommodations, and policy guidance.
- The HRBA operates in a highly client-facing, fast-paced environment, helping organisations navigate real-time HR challenges while ensuring compliance with Canadian employment legislation. This is a consultative role requiring strong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to interpret and communicate legislative requirements confidently.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- The HR Business Advisor will manage a portfolio of clients (gradually ramping up to ~60 over time), serving as their primary HR contact for advisory support. Clients will reach out directly with HR-related questions and challenges, requiring timely, thoughtful, and compliant guidance.
- The role involves advising on topics such as employee leaves, accommodations (e.g., human rights/ergonomic requests), compliance questions (e.g., vacation pay), performance management, and general HR best practices. The HRBA must be able to navigate ambiguity, research legislation as needed, and clearly articulate recommendations to clients, many of whom may be under pressure or frustrated.
- They will also document all interactions within systems, collaborate with team members on complex cases, and leverage internal tools/platforms (including HR Assist). The role supports clients across multiple jurisdictions, so while deep expertise in every province isn’t required, knowing how to find and interpret the correct legislation is critical.
Must-Haves:
• 4-5+ years of HR experience (3 years considered too junior)
• Strong understanding of Canadian employment legislation (multi-jurisdiction exposure preferred)
• Proven ability to handle employee relations, compliance, and HR advisory scenarios
• Strong communication skills – must be articulate and confident with clients
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, client-facing environment with competing priorities
• Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness (knows how to find answers when unsure)
• Tech-savvy and comfortable navigating multiple HR systems/tools
• Ability to manage ambiguity and work independently
Plusses:
• Previous HR consulting or outsourcing experience (supporting multiple clients)
• Experience with accommodations, human rights, and compliance-heavy HR work
• Experience with HR tools or similar HR platforms
• Experience managing a high-volume client portfolio
• HR designation (CHRP, CHRL, etc.)
