Description
Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for an Instrumentation Designer to join their team on a contract opportunity in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation & Controls Design
- Develop and modify control philosophies, control narratives, shutdown keys, and cause & effect matrices.
- Prepare, update, and check instrument indexes, datasheets, loop documentation and other documentation as required in Smart Instrumentation.
- Design field instrumentation, control loops, junction boxes, control panels, and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to update instrument location in Smart 3D
- Support instrumentation selection and specification based on process and project requirements.
Project Support
- Support small-to-medium capital and brownfield projects from concept through construction.
- Coordinate instrumentation design activities with piping, process, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil disciplines
- Collaborate with Supply Chain during RFQ cycles by preparing technical requirements and reviewing vendor submissions.
- Review and integrate vendor drawings, data sheets, and technical documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews with engineers, designers, and project managers.
- Provide field support including responses to RFI’s / site queries, redline incorporation, and as-built updates
Quality & Compliance
- Conduct periodic site visits for scoping, field verification, and as-building.
- Participate in HAZOP and What-If review sessions with project and client teams.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures, company standards, and client requirements.
- Follow all internal and client safety practices and site access requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical diploma or degree in Instrumentation Technology, or related discipline.
- 4–8 years of relevant instrumentation and controls design experience.
- Strong capability to independently develop, review, and manage I&C design deliverables.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- Experience with Smart Instrumentation (INtools) and some Smart 3D experience would be beneficial
