Job Title: Intermediate Electrical Designer<br/><br/>Job Description
Actalents EPC client is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer in Calgary. This individual will support the execution of electrical and controls design for complex industrial and oil and gas projects within a fast‑paced EPC environment. The role focuses on producing high‑quality, well‑coordinated design deliverables while ensuring technical accuracy, cross‑discipline compatibility, and efficient project execution.<br/><br/>Responsibilities<br/><br/>Complete detailed electrical and control design and drafting for industrial and oil and gas projects, including cable tray layouts, lighting and grounding systems, power layouts, equipment and electrical load lists, single‑line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and I/O loop drawings.<br/><br/>Develop and maintain 3D models for electrical and control systems and coordinate overall model integration with other disciplines.<br/><br/>Prepare and review control‑related documentation such as control panel bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and loop drawings for industrial projects.<br/><br/>Perform and verify electrical design calculations, including voltage drop, lighting level calculations, cable tray fill, and heat trace wattage.<br/><br/>Populate, maintain, and validate electrical load lists and cable schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness.<br/><br/>Check layouts and drawings for quality, consistency, and presentation, and maintain quality control across all design deliverables.<br/><br/>Review project documentation to ensure scope clarity, presentation quality, and technical accuracy.<br/><br/>Coordinate closely with discipline leads, department leadership, clients, and other engineering disciplines to ensure design compatibility and smooth project execution.<br/><br/>Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.<br/><br/>Manage and prioritize multiple small to mid‑sized EPC projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and project requirements.<br/><br/>Use CAD software effectively to create, revise, and manage design drawings and documentation in a digital environment.<br/><br/>Essential Skills<br/><br/>Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.<br/><br/>3–8 years of experience working in a small to mid‑sized EPC environment, with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.<br/><br/>At least 3 years of experience in electrical power systems design and control system design, with demonstrated capability in both areas.<br/><br/>Strong experience using CAD software (such as Bluebeam, Plant 3D, AutoCAD or similar), with the ability to perform redlines and revisions digitally.<br/><br/>Hands‑on experience with midstream or industrial projects, including exposure to control systems, PLCs, and marshalling cabinets.<br/><br/>Proficiency in developing and interpreting single‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, I/O loop drawings, and P&IDs.<br/><br/>Ability to perform and verify electrical calculations including voltage drop, lighting levels, cable tray fill, and heat trace wattage.<br/><br/>Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.<br/><br/>High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.<br/><br/>Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment.<br/><br/>Nice To Have<br/><br/>Experience with data‑centric or database‑driven engineering design workflows such as SmartPlant, Intergraph, Microsoft Access, or Power BI.<br/><br/>Experience using Elecdes software for electrical design.<br/><br/>Experience working on midstream projects, including projects for major pipeline operators.<br/><br/>Familiarity with CEC and relevant industry standards for electrical design.<br/><br/>Experience with 3D modelling tools and overall model coordination in a multidisciplinary environment.<br/><br/>Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative design team.<br/><br/>Work Environment
This position is part of a collaborative design team working in a fast‑paced project‑driven environment, with a focus on quality, coordination, and continuous communication across disciplines.<br/><br/>The work model is hybrid, with three days per week in the office and two days working from home, offering flexibility while maintaining strong team collaboration.<br/><br/>Job Type & Location
