Job Overview

Position: Senior Legal Counsel, Procurement & Legal. This is a regular, full‑time role with a flexible hybrid schedule. The work location is 483 Bay Street in Toronto until late 2026, after which it will move to 3 Robert Speck Parkway in Mississauga. Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Legal Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will oversee contract drafting, reviewing, negotiating, managing, and implementing various agreements. Key duties include:

  • Reviewing and considering all pertinent issues that arise in the context of negotiations.
  • Independently drafting, reviewing, negotiating and managing a variety of agreements.
  • Liaising and collaborating with external and internal Fidelity business partners to ensure necessary legal documentation is completed on time.
  • Assisting in the continual improvement of processes, documentation and practices to achieve a more efficient workflow.
  • Assisting with supplied sourcing, onboarding and engagement as well as ad‑hoc projects as necessary.
  • Drafting, maintaining and updating material contracts as required.
  • Coordinating and implementing comments received from internal and external parties.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and enhancement of legal and procurement policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and driving opportunities to streamline, standardize and automate contracting processes, including leveraging technology to improve efficiency and consistency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in the legal or procurement department of a large commercial organization or large law firm.
  • Licensed as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
  • Experience in contracts is required.
  • Comfortable using contract lifecycle systems, contract management software, and other legal technology solutions.
  • Experience with technology contracts and/or AI vendors is an asset.
  • Excellent contract drafting skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Superior communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to collaboratively solve legal issues.
  • Knowledge of corporate law.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Prior mutually funded industry experience is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary and discretionary performance bonus: Total annual cash compensation ranges from $182,000 to $212,000, based on experience and qualifications.
  • RRSP contribution: After 6 months of employment, a contribution is made to your RRSP (no employee matching required).
