Description
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer of the Regulatory Division of the Montreal Exchange, the Legal Counsel – Regulation provides legal advice to the Division’s services in a hybrid setting (50% office – 50% remote), based in Montreal, QC.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide legal advice in connection with the modification or development of new market integrity rules, ensuring initiatives meet applicable laws and regulations.
- Negotiate, draft, and interpret commercial agreements and provide advice on contractual matters to the Division’s services.
- Review and draft the Division’s internal policies and procedures in close collaboration with Division services.
- Provide legal support to Division services to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.
- Follow developments in derivatives law and financial market regulation.
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar.
- Between 4 and 8 years of experience in derivatives law and financial market regulation.
- Bilingual English/French required for contacts and collaboration with clients and colleagues.
- Knowledge of regulatory and operational aspects of derivatives trading.
- Strong representation skills with the ability to explain issues concisely to audiences of varying subject knowledge.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Ability to assume responsibilities independently and manage multiple priorities optimally.
- Results‑oriented perspective and strong understanding of regulatory issues.
- Initiative and team spirit with the ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
