The Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health seeks applications for a full-time, hospital-based locum General Neurologist in the Division of Neurology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This position is available as soon as possible, with flexibility in the start date. The end date for the locum will be June 30, 2027.
The Division of Neurology, one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine, consists of 21 neurologists who provide comprehensive neurologic care to patients throughout the Maritime provinces. The Division has an active RCPSC-accredited adult neurology residency training program.
The QEII Health Sciences Centre is a tertiary care facility and Level 1 trauma center serving a catchment population of approximately 1 million people. We provide service to an inpatient Stroke Unit, a General Neurology Service, an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and inpatient and outpatient consultative services in all neurological subspecialties. Our accredited EEG/EMG laboratory at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital is the academic referral center for Nova Scotia and is the primary teaching unit for electrodiagnostic medicine in the Maritimes.
Responsibilities
- Care for a variety of patients admitted to the General Neurology ward at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital.
- Provide faculty support to the inpatient neurology consultation service and the daytime Emergency Department consultation service.
- Operate an outpatient General Neurology clinic within the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
- Participate in night and weekend emergency neurology on-call (including acute stroke management), usually less than twice per month with a resident physician.
- Participate in the Dalhousie University undergraduate and postgraduate neurology teaching curriculum.
- Engage in self-generated research projects, clinical trials, and other multidisciplinary research studies.
Qualifications
- Must hold FRCPC (or equivalent) certification in Adult Neurology.
- Must be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia.
