POSITION DESCRIPTION – MANAGER, ENVIRONMENT & PERMITTING

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reports to: Vice President, Health, Safety & Sustainability

Location: Vancouver

POSITION SUMMARY

As Manager, Environment & Permitting, you will be responsible for overseeing the environmental management programs across the organization to ensure adequate practices are in place to manage risk. The Manager works with the sites and projects to identify permitting priorities, and to develop strategies for approvals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager, Environment & Permitting will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Environmental Practices:

  • Working with sites to ensure the development and implementation of environmental strategies in accordance with operational risks, alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the sites with the execution of key environmental priorities.

Permitting:

  • Working with site and projects teams to develop and maintain register of current and future permit needs.
  • Supports the development and submittal of strategic permits.

Environmental Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Overseeing the implementation of environmental monitoring programs.
  • Coordinating corporate lead environmental audits and inspections and helping address any non-compliance issues promptly.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Establishing processes to ensure compliance with local, regional, and national environmental regulations.
  • Supporting monitoring changes in environmental legislation and adapting Company practices accordingly.

Risk Management:

  • Identifying potential environmental risks and leading the implementation of mitigation strategies to reduce the likelihood of environmental incidents.
  • Leading investigations of environmental incidents and ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

Leadership and Development:

  • Leading through influence to develop teams of environmental professionals, providing training, and guidance.
  • Fostering a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility across the organization through training, workshops, and awareness programs.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in environmental management within the mining industry, with a strong preference for gold mining experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in water management and treatment is a must.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting processes, and best practices in mining.
  • Proven track record in leading environmental compliance programs and managing complex environmental issues.
  • Strong business acumen and an advanced understanding of the mining or natural resource sectors.
  • Demonstrated learning agility, strong thinking, and analytical skills. Ability to develop and implement new processes and ways of doing work.
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building abilities with the capacity to work independently and in a team environment with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work in diverse cultures with diplomacy and an understanding of differences in international business environments.
  • Exceptional decision-making skills, demonstrating a strategic and objective approach to challenges and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to show confidence, emotional intelligence, reputation, and standing across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to function in a deadline-driven, partially virtual environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel nationally or internationally; the expected travel requirement is up to 30% per year.

The salary range for this position is $ 155,700 to $ 190,000. The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, taking into consideration internal equity. Qualified candidates with the required qualifications and relevant experience can expect an offer between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. Progression toward the higher end of the range is based on higher qualifications and experience or demonstrated performance in the role.
