Interclara has been engaged by a growing third-party logistics company in Mississauga to help identify a hands-on Operations Team Lead.
Our client provides customized freight and supply chain solutions across North America and is continuing to grow its operations and service offering. This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, service-driven logistics business in a role that sits close to daily execution, team accountability, customer service, and freight movement.
The Operations Team Lead will support and lead the daily execution of the company’s Southbound logistics team. This person will help keep the operation moving, support team members directly, monitor service levels, improve workflows, and ensure freight is handled accurately and efficiently.
This is a practical, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the pace of a transportation environment and is comfortable staying close to the details. The successful candidate will be able to catch issues early, cover gaps when needed, support the team in real time, and help set the tone through urgency, accuracy, follow-through, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the daily operations of the Southbound logistics team, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with service expectations.
- Coordinate daily transportation and freight movement activity, ensuring shipments are handled on time, issues are followed up on, and customer requirements are met.
- Stay close to the daily workflow to identify missed details, bottlenecks, service issues, or follow-up gaps before they escalate.
- Provide hands-on support or coverage during absences, volume spikes, urgent customer needs, or operational issues.
- Set the tone for the team through responsiveness, attention to detail, accountability, and strong follow-through.
- Lead, support, and develop team members through regular check-ins, practical guidance, and day-to-day mentorship.
- Support onboarding for new team members, ensuring they understand workflows, expectations, systems, and service standards.
- Monitor KPIs, service levels, productivity, and team performance to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop, maintain, and reinforce SOPs to improve consistency, accuracy, accountability, and workflow execution.
- Support cost control and carrier rate discussions as needed.
- Act as the primary on-site operations contact in the absence of the VP of Operations, making practical day-to-day decisions and escalating appropriately when needed.
- Collaborate with warehouse, procurement, customer service, carriers, and external partners to keep freight moving and resolve issues quickly.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety policies, and transportation regulations.
- Travel occasionally to U.S. terminals to support rollouts, review processes, audit execution, and strengthen site-level operations. Most trips are expected to be 1–3 days, as needed.
- Work a standard shift of 9:00 AM–6:00 PM with a 1-hour break, while maintaining flexibility to adjust hours or respond outside standard times based on operational needs.
