Pension & Benefits Specialist

Location: Etobicoke (Hybrid – 3 days in office)

Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 (flexible for the right candidate)

We’re looking for a Pension & Benefits Specialist to join a collaborative HR team, supporting the delivery and evolution of benefits and retirement programs across a national workforce. This role is ideal for someone who brings true subject matter expertise in Total Rewards, not just administration, and is comfortable operating as a trusted advisor to the business.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits and pension programs, ensuring alignment with company policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Act as a go-to resource for HR, Payroll, and employees on all benefits-related matters, providing clear guidance and timely support
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external providers to resolve complex claims, coverage questions, and unique cases
  • Contribute to the design, enhancement, and continuous improvement of benefits and retirement programs
  • Support annual processes such as benefits enrolment, pension reporting, audits, and year-end activities
  • Prepare and submit required pension filings and ensure all compliance obligations are met within deadlines
  • Review and validate vendor invoices and reporting for accuracy
  • Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and testing from a benefits and pension perspective
  • Develop communications, training materials, and presentations related to Total Rewards programs
  • Collaborate closely with the broader HR team to support ongoing initiatives and projects

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in pension and benefits, ideally within a complex or multi-site organization
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian benefits programs, including both broad-based and executive offerings
  • Solid understanding of pension regulations, compliance, and reporting requirements
  • Experience working within a Total Rewards function is a strong asset
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms such as SAP or similar systems
  • Progress toward or completion of a professional designation (e.g., CEBS) is considered an asset
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical information to real-world scenarios with sound judgment
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly when handling sensitive information
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
