Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Vaughan, ON, for both Senior and Junior Associate Lawyers focusing on workplace and employment law. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting pleadings, legal memoranda, and correspondence, reviewing employment contracts and workplace policies, and conducting legal research on employment standards, human rights, and related issues. Associates will manage files under appropriate supervision, communicate with clients to gather facts and provide updates, and support senior lawyers in preparing for mediations, hearings, and negotiations. The Senior Associate will additionally take a lead role in strategy development, mentoring junior team members, managing more complex files, and participating in business development and client relationship management. Both levels will collaborate closely with the firm’s team to deliver timely, high-quality legal services and ensure compliance with professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario; LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Experience or strong interest in employment, labor, or workplace law; prior litigation or advocacy experience is an asset.
- Proven ability to draft clear, concise pleadings, contracts, policies, and legal opinions, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret statutes, regulations, case law, and administrative decisions.
- Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional, respectful, and empathetic approach.
- Effective file and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple matters simultaneously.
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a small-firm environment, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- For Senior Associate: several years of post-call experience in employment or workplace law, with demonstrated file carriage, advocacy experience, and mentoring or leadership capabilities.
- For Junior Associate: some exposure to workplace or litigation matters through articling, clerkships, internships, or early practice is preferred.
