A SLICE OF THE ROLE

The Senior Buyer is responsible for developing, executing, and continuously improving a lean, cost-effective procurement function that supports the production of finished goods. This role ensures purchasing activities are aligned with production schedules and inventory requirements while minimizing waste and driving operational efficiency. The Senior Buyer plays a key role in supplier performance management, material flow optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.

Procurement Strategy & Planning

  • Support the development and execution of procurement strategies aligned with business goals, operational efficiency, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure a consistent supply of materials and resources to meet production timelines and inventory requirements.
  • Gather and analyze supplier and pricing data through market research, product specifications, and vendor engagement.
  • Evaluate cost structures and contribute to improving procurement processes and policies to enhance overall efficiency.
  • Monitor market trends, supply risks, and pricing fluctuations, providing insights and forecasts to support decision-making.

Supplier Relations & Cost Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, including negotiating agreements and terms.
  • Source and assess competitive proposals based on quality, pricing, and service reliability.
  • Participate in supplier selection, performance evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Address and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, and invoicing in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through sourcing strategies, vendor optimization, and contract improvements.

Reporting & Systems

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier information, and documentation for operational efficiency.
  • Oversee required product and material documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Track and report on key procurement metrics, cost drivers, and market insights.
  • Contribute to the effective use and continuous improvement of procurement systems and processes.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all procurement activities align with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation and approvals for all purchasing activities.
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders and related documentation in line with internal controls and audit standards.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline
  • 6–8 years of relevant procurement or sourcing experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated negotiation and vendor management expertise
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting
