Description

Cold-Formed Steel & Hollowcore │ On-Site │ Full-Time

About the Role

Magest is hiring a Senior CAD Designer to lead the detailing and modeling of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing and hollowcore precast concrete systems on commercial, multi-family, and institutional projects. You’ll work closely with structural engineers, project managers, and shop fabrication teams to translate design intent into accurate, build-ready drawings and models. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who takes pride in precision, constructability, and clean, well-organized models.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop production-quality shop drawings, layouts, and 3D models for cold-formed steel framing assemblies and hollowcore plank systems.
  • Build and maintain accurate Revit models, families, and AutoCAD details that meet project standards and downstream fabrication needs.
  • Coordinate with structural engineers to interpret loads, connections, and bearing conditions; flag conflicts early and propose constructible solutions.
  • Run clash detection and resolve coordination issues with architectural, MEP, and structural disciplines.
  • Generate panel layouts, erection drawings, plank schedules, opening/penetration drawings, and connection details.
  • Mentor junior drafters and detailers; review their work for accuracy, code compliance, and adherence to Magest standards.
  • Continuously improve templates, families, libraries, and CAD/BIM standards to speed up future projects.
  • Support estimating with takeoffs and preliminary models during the bid phase when needed.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of professional CAD/BIM experience in structural detailing, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • Direct, hands-on experience detailing cold-formed steel (CFS) framing — load-bearing walls, curtain walls, floor and roof systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with hollowcore precast concrete plank design and detailing, including bearing, connections, and openings.
  • Fluent in Autodesk Revit — modeling, family creation, sheet setup, schedules, and view templates.
  • Fluent in AutoCAD — advanced 2D detailing, xrefs, layer standards, and dynamic blocks.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (IBC, AISI S100/S240, ACI 318, PCI Manual, ASCE 7) as they apply to detailing.
  • Excellent ability to read structural and architectural drawings and translate them into accurate models and shop tickets.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable interfacing with engineers, PMs, and shop personnel.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Revit Structure connections, parametric families
  • Familiarity with steel detailing software (Tekla Structures, SDS/2, or similar).
  • Prior work inside a precast or CFS panel fabricator — understanding of shop workflows and fabrication tolerances.
  • Navisworks or BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud coordination experience.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural/Structural Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.

We appreciate the interest of all applicants and will be contacting candidates whose skills, experience and qualifications best meet the requirements of the position.
