Role Description The Staff Accountant is a part-time remote role responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of Canada Snowboard. This role includes recording and reconciling transactions, processing accounts payable and receivable, and preparing journal entries and month-end reconciliations. The Staff Accountant assists with payroll data preparation, expense reporting, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial policies. The role also supports the preparation of budgets, forecasts, financial statements, and reports for leadership, funders, and stakeholders. The Staff Accountant collaborates with program managers and other team members to track project and program expenses, respond to financial inquiries, and contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.

Qualifications

  • Solid accounting and bookkeeping skills, including general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and understanding of accrual-based accounting.
  • Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment runs, collections, and vendor management.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and productivity tools (e.g., QuickBooks or similar, Excel/Google Sheets, and cloud-based financial systems).
  • Strong financial reporting and analysis abilities, including preparing financial statements, budget vs. actual reports, and supporting audit or review processes.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and grant or project-based accounting, preferably in a non-profit or sport organization environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, program leads, and external partners in a clear, respectful, and inclusive manner.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; progress toward or completion of a recognized accounting designation (e.g., CPA) is an asset.
  • Understanding of, or interest in, high-performance sport or amateur sport systems is an asset, along with alignment with Canada Snowboard’s values and athlete-centered mission.
