About the Role

We are looking for a part-time Staff Accountant with Canadian public practice or small-business accounting experience to support bookkeeping cleanup, reconciliations, GST/HST, payroll-related reconciliations, year-end working papers, and T1/T2 tax preparation support.

This is a remote role for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable with QBO and/or Xero, and able to prepare organized, CPA-review-ready work.

What You’ll Do

  • Complete bookkeeping and cleanup work in QBO and/or Xero
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, clearing, and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare GST/HST support and flag tax coding issues
  • Prepare year-end working papers and supporting schedules
  • Support simple to moderate T1 preparation
  • Support T2 preparation by organizing documents, preparing schedules, and identifying review issues
  • Prepare clear open-items lists, review notes, and client questions
  • Follow Suma CPA’s documentation, privacy, and quality-control procedures

What You Bring

  • 2–4 years of Canadian public practice, bookkeeping firm, or small-business accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of QBO Canada and/or Xero Canada
  • Experience with bookkeeping cleanup and reconciliations
  • Familiarity with GST/HST, payroll remittances, CRA accounts, and year-end files
  • Exposure to T1 and/or T2 preparation in a Canadian accounting environment
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Located in Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada

Nice to Have

  • CPA student, accounting diploma, or bookkeeping certification
  • Experience with TaxCycle, Hubdoc, Stripe, NetSuite, Plooto
  • Familiarity with CRA Represent a Client, CRA notices, instalments, GST/HST, and payroll accounts
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Location: Remote, Canada

Type: Part-time employee

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Compensation: $32 – $36 per hour, depending on experience

Start date: As soon as the right candidate is found
