Position: Tieback Driller

Job Type: Site-based, Full-time.

Location: Eastern Canada. Our head office is located in Hamilton, Ontario.

Pay Rate: $55.80 per hour (in accordance with the applicable collective agreement).

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Operate tieback and anchor drilling equipment safely and efficiently on active construction sites.
  • Perform drilling activities in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Set up, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot drilling equipment and tooling.
  • Work closely with Superintendents, Forepersons, Engineers, and project crews to ensure work is completed safely and productively.
  • Monitor drilling conditions and communicate any concerns related to ground conditions, equipment performance, or project requirements.
  • Assist with installation of tiebacks, anchors, and associated systems.
  • Complete equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and required documentation.
  • Follow all company, client, and regulatory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, and job hazard assessments.
  • Travel to project sites as required throughout Eastern Canada.
  • Support other drilling and foundation activities as required.

This position is governed by the applicable union collective agreement. Candidates must be members in good standing with IUOE Local 793 or be willing and eligible to obtain membership upon hire in accordance with union and project requirements.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Experience operating tieback, anchor, caisson, micropiles, or similar drilling equipment is considered an asset. Experience within the deep foundations, geotechnical, heavy civil, or construction industry is considered an asset. Experience working on active construction projects and job site is considered an asset.
  • Soft skills: Reliable, motivated, and dependable. Ability to work effectively within a team environment. Strong communication skills. Ability to work in varying weather and site conditions. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Required designations or certifications: Must be a member in good standing with IUOE Local 793 or be willing and eligible to join IUOE Local 793 upon hire. Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites throughout Eastern Canada. WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain). Working at Heights certification considered an asset. First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset. Additional construction safety certifications are considered an asset.
