Port Coquitlam Senior Citizens’ Housing Society (PCSCHS) is a non‑profit charitable organization serving seniors through affordable housing and care services in Port Coquitlam, BC.

We proudly own and operate:

  • Dogwood Seniors Housing, offering both subsidized and affordable housing options
  • Hawthorne Seniors Care Community, providing long‑term care, assisted living, and adult day programs

We are guided by a mission of community, comfort, care, and connection, and we are entering a period of significant growth and complexity.

Why We’re Recruiting

As we expand our services and manage increasing operational and capital demands, our Board is strengthening its financial governance capacity. We are seeking a CPA‑designated Director (or an individual with equivalent senior‑level accounting/audit expertise) to join our Board and help ensure strong oversight, transparency, and sustainable decision‑making.

The Opportunity (Volunteer Board Role)

We are seeking a Board Director who will bring deep financial literacy and accounting expertise to support:

  • Board‑level oversight of financial reporting, budgets, internal controls, and risk
  • Audit readiness and liaison with external auditors (as needed)
  • Review of financial assumptions related to operational sustainability and growth
  • Strengthening governance practices related to financial accountability and stewardship
  • Preferred: willingness to serve on, and ideally help lead, the Finance & Audit Committee

Key Qualifications

Required (one of the following):

  • CPA designation (in good standing), or
  • Equivalent senior accounting/audit experience suitable for board‑level oversight

Strong assets:

  • Experience with non‑profit financial oversight and/or publicly funded environments
  • Familiarity with financial controls, risk management, and audit processes
  • Experience reviewing budgets for complex, multi‑service organizations
  • Understanding of capital planning / project financial oversight (an asset, not required)
  • Strong judgment, integrity, and ability to ask the right questions respectfully and constructively

Time Commitment

  • Board meetings are held monthly (typically 1.5 -2 hours)
  • Committee participation: approximately 1–2 hours per month (depending on committee workload and organizational priorities)
  • Directors are expected to review materials in advance and participate actively in governance and strategic discussions.
