Overview
Northern Health is urgently seeking locum physicians to work in the Chetwynd Hospital & Health Centre Emergency Department in Chetwynd, British Columbia. Locums have the option of covering clinic and/or ER. ER shifts are 24 hours (0800-0800). You can expect to see an average of 20 patients in a 24-hour shift. The clinic features inter‑professional teams (IPT) including Mental Health & Addictions, Community Nursing and Public Health, with space for visiting specialties such as Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. This model focuses on patient‑centred care that is accessible, coordinated, comprehensive and continuous, with quality improvement and patient safety as key areas of focus.
The Chetwynd Hospital has 7 long-term beds and 5 acute care beds and operates services including 24/7 Emergency, Medical Inpatient, Palliative Care, and Respiratory Therapy. Chetwynd (population 3,100) is located on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains and serves as a transportation hub of the Peace River Region.
Responsibilities
- Provide locum coverage in the Chetwynd Hospital & Health Centre Emergency Department; option to cover clinic as needed.
- Work ER shifts lasting 24 hours (0800–0800); manage an estimated patient volume of about 20 per 24-hour shift.
- Collaborate with Inter-Professional Teams (IPT) including Mental Health & Addictions, Community Nursing and Public Health; coordinate with visiting specialties such as Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Therapy.
- Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives as part of routine practice.
Qualifications
- Current, formal ER practice is required.
- Minimum of 320 hours in the last 2 years of ER and Primary Care combined, with at least 160 hours per year averaged over the two-year period in formal ER coverage.
