8 week remote contract

Phase 1: Planning & Design

Requires deep review of current Nutanix networking, mapping to new Dell topologies, and writing a formal cutover schedule to prevent outages

Planning & Design, and Configuring the new Hyper-V failover cluster

Perform migration of the current VMs off the legacy Nutanix environment over to the new stack (with minimal downtime)

Phase 2: Hardware Deployment

Unboxing, racking, and cabling 6-7 physical units, plus downloading and applying the latest Dell baseline firmware across all nodes and storage controllers

Phase 3: Cluster Configuration

Installing OS, configuring complex network teaming (LACP/vSwitches), setting up iSCSI/FC paths, and building/validating the Microsoft Failover Cluster and Cluster Shared Volumes

Phase 4: VM Migration

Cross-hypervisor migration (Nutanix AHV to Hyper-V) requires V2V conversion. This covers tool setup, testing, and data replication/cutovers across after-hours windows

Phase 5: Handover & Testing

Running physical failure tests (node reboots, cable pulls) to prove cluster resilience, followed by drafting the technical As-Built document and a hand-off session

  • Minimum of 6-8+ years in a similar role handling Nutanix migrations
  • Industry certification in Nutanix would be an asset
  • Deep knowledge of Nutanix networking
  • Expert in Nutanix AOS to export disks, QEMU command-line tools for disk conversion, Hyper-V , PowerShell for importing and configuring the VMs
  • Extensive experience with Nutanix to Hyper-V migrations including tool setup, testing, data replication
  • Experience mapping Nutanix to new Dell topologies
  • Experience with Dell R770s + Dell Unity XT 380, Dell PowerVault ME5
  • Previous experience creating cutover schedules to prevent outages
  • Running failure tests, cluster resilience
  • Strong communication is mandatory – ability to work within the team and communicate with the customer
  • Ability to produce top quality Documentation
  • Ability to do thorough Knowledge transfer and hand off
